Giving to St Matthew’s

“Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you mayabound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9: 7-8 (ESV)

The Bible speaks about Christian giving as a privilege and a response to God’s generosity shown to us in the Lord Jesus. We are encouraged to give joyfully to the needs of others knowing that as we do God is more than able to meet our own needs.

The work of St Matthews is mainly paid for by the gifts of our church members. We encourage everyone who sees themselves as part of our church family to give regularly to support the church’s work. Financial giving is one of the many ways we can play our part at St Matthews.

Your gifts will help to pay for our ministers, our administrator, running and maintaining our buildings, our work to serve and chare Christ with our local community.

‘Stewardship Sunday’ is the annual opportunity for the whole church family to prayerfully reflect on their financial support for St Matthews.  Please click here to find out more about giving to St Matthew’s.

The online giving website www.charity giving.co.uk is currently suspended while the Charity Commission investigate The Dove Trust which runs Charity Giving. The Charity Commission have published a press release which you can read in full here: http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/news/charitygiving-website-suspended.

The press release says, “Any funds donated on or after 12th July should be automatically directed back to the donor through the banking system, however, donors should check their bank accounts to ensure this has happened and if not, contact the Interim Manager. It is expected that an alternative option will be set up by the Interim Manager shortly so that donors can continue to support charities.  Charities and donors should check regularly the Charity Giving website for updates.”

While we all wait for further news, it may be wise to check your bank statements to check the donations you have made and then speak to Tom Morgan our Treasurer(01424 432799) to see if those payments have been paid into St.Matthew’s Church bank account. If any donations have been taken out of your account on or after 12th July you will want to check that they have been repaid to you.
