New Heating at St Matthews

In October 2022 the St Matthew’s gas boilers failed their safety inspection and are unable to be repaired. The boilers date from 1975 and have served the church for over 46 years. The PCC is now in the process of replacing the heating system with something more modern and fit for the 2020s.

As part of this process, the PCC commissioned a heating consultant to carry out an options assessment on the building. A copy of his report can be downloaded here.

This was followed up by a presentation to the Church Family on 26 February with the options and next steps. A copy of this presentation can be downloaded here.

As a result of this report, the PCC have applied for a faculty for a new gas boiler. This application was considered by the Chichester Diocese DAC in May 2023 and is now subject to a public consultation until 4 July 2023. Copies of the application documents are below:

We are still obtaining quotes for the new boiler but we estimate the cost being in the region of £45-50,000+vat including fees. If you are able to make a donation towards the new system, please do contact the church office.
